washington. it started around 1:30 this morning on kisconko road. firefighters had the fire out in less than thirty minutes - but the home is still a total loss. no one was hurt. some civil rights groups are upset about a transgender-relate d policy change by the trump administration. hundreds of people protete

white house. they're upset that the administration revoked an obama-era mandate. it compelled public schools nationwide to permit restroom access on the basis of gender identity. the administration says that decision will now be left to the states and to school districts. in its decision, the trump administration reaffirmed that, quote.. "all schools must ensure that all students, including l-g-b-t students, are able to learn and thrive in a safe environment." some big names set to speak at the first full day of cpac today. vice president mike pence, secretary of education betsy devos - and controversial advisor to the president, steve bannon will also address the group today. president trump himself will speak on friday. the conservative political action conference runs through saturday at national harbor.

demonstration turned violent. some of the protesters threw hard objects at police officers. the protest was in response to an off-duty l-a-p-d officer's confrontation with a teen on tuesday. the protesters allegedly threw rocks at the officer's home and spray-painted his garage. tuesday's incident began over ongoing issues with juveniles walking across the officer's property. a 13-year-old boy is accused of threatening to shoot the officer. he tried to detain the boy until anaheim police arrived. that led to a physical confrontation between the officer and several other juveniles. the officer discharged his gun once. no one was hit. the 13-year-old was booked in juvenile hall on suspicion of criminal threats and battery. the officer was "not" arrested. he's on administrative leave, pending an investigation. happening now... authorities are dismantling what's left of the protest camp near the dakota access oil pipeline. police arr

congressman leonard lance was faced with a large group of vocal demonstrators. happening today.. protesters are expected at a public hearing on a development plan in bethesda. the demonstrators are upset about plans to develop what they say is an african-american burial ground. members of the macedonia baptist church tried to get the planning commission to delay today's hearing until an archeological study is complete. but the hearing on the westbard development plan will go ahead as scheduled. caps broke a two game losing skid on the road in philadelphia. nicklaus backstrom started the night off beating former cap michael noy-virth for the first goal of the night. evgeny kutzenov followed with a goal in the second. it was all caps from there. capitals beat the flyers 4-1. a surreal new art exhibit, will be flooding your instagram feed soon. and we got a first look at it. this is at the

the live desk this happened on south whiting street, right next to the van dorn plaza shopping center. alexandria police tell us a suspect went to a woman getting in her car, and implied he had a weapon. he drove off with her 2016 silver rav-4. no one was hurt, but if you know anything -- call police. also breaking overnight - hazmat crews are on the scene of a serious accident this morning in maryland. it happened just after midnight on antelope lane and addison road. it's unclear what sparked the crash but officials it started a fuel leak. one truck lost between 200 to 300 gallons of low sulfur diesel fuel. an update this morning. the police officer involved in a dramatic crash- has been taken off patrol duty. a fairfax police cruiser slammed into a van in falls

officer was speeding at the time- and the flashing lights were not on. the police department is doing an internal investigation. police say a 5-year-old playing with a lighter sparked a fire that killed him- and injured several of his family members. the fire happened in lorton tuesday night. a neighbor saw the boy's mother standing outside the house - screaming his name. the house is now the scene of a growing memorial to that little boy. new this morning... someone is waking up 435 million dollars richer. but sorry, it's no one in the d-m-v. a winning powerball ticket was sold indiania. the ticket matched these numbers.. 10-13-28-52-61 and the powerball is two. the 435 million dollar jackpot is the seventh largest in powerball

the live desk - sam? jummy, makayla mattei went missing from her prince william county home last friday... we first brought you this story yesterday as the search ramped up... now the fbi now says makayla voluntarily left with a man who flew to the us from estonia. she had reportedly been chatting with the man online. the fbi says makayla has a diabetes and may not have her insulin. right now we dont know much about the estonian man. estonia borders russia and the baltic sea. there have been no reported sightings of the pair. as soon as we have new information, well let you know. this morning the first officer on the scene of that

explosion - is giving an emotional account of what it was like that morning. jeff hughes was off duty last august when the explosion happened. he rushed to the scene and started helping the people still trapped inside. the explosion killed seven. among them? - john's close friend sal pagiulo. for his bravery last night hughes received the department's medal of valor award. its' one of the departments highest honors. to the first 100 day s- and a delay in president trumps' new order on immigration. the white house- now says it'll come next week. the original order banned entry from seven primarly-muslim nations for 120 days. it was halted by an appeals court. meanwhile - secretary of state rex tillerson is in

six. right now - people in california aresurveying the damage from catastrophic floods in california. this is stunning new video from san jose- where you can see cars are nearly submerged. at least 14-thousand people were forced to evacuate. tonight- the mayor of san jose said the city failed to properly let people know when to leave. while the west has had a soggy winter so far, our area has been pretty dry - and warm. we've only seen about an a inch and a half of snow this winter. for plow companies it's a big loss - but for the state it means savings. of virginia's $83-million dollar snow budget, $43-million is still unspent. maryland's $61-million dollars, $25-million remains. state officials say that unused money oculd be spent elsewhere. the schools are feeling it too.
